Who Can Become an Entrepreneur? Everyone...

Did your families own farms? Did you have someone in your family, or are you an owner of your own business? Have you ever had a fleeting thought about something you've seen, and think you could do it better?

That's the definition of an entrepreneur -- a wonderful French word meaning a person possessing "the type of personality who is willing to take upon herself or himself a new venture or enterprise and accepts full responsibility for the outcome " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entrepreneur

It's easy to think that Entrepreneurs are born not created. I remember people in college taking on the new Entrepreneurial program at the UofA Eller School of Management where I graduated. I always thought that they were way too stressed out, and totally busy doing extra work on top of their already stressful degree program. They did campaigns for "Tide", or created their own product, manufactured it, and marketed it in one semester from somewhere in China.

That never seemed cool to me... I didn't think that I was made that way. Now that I've been rethinking some of that old thinking, I've recently discovered that many of us have exactly what it takes to be incredibly successful entrepreneurs. After reading the TechCrunch article below, I realized that my family is riddled with examples of people who struck it out on their own, and created their own enterprise. America was created from that spirit of invention and forward thinking innovation. The best of this country was espoused by the ethic of capitalism and democracy that created our U.S. Constitution, and the technology I'm using to type this blog.

Take a look at your family history, and see if you can find some inspiration for making your own "thing" happen in the business world, art, or whatever. Look for the elements that are you, and go for it.
